BURNDY is pleased to unveil their newest single, âStatic.â Now playing at Decibel Magazine, the track is featured on the trioâs eponymous debut, set for release independently on May 2nd.
BURNDYÂ â a term used to describe something that is slightly burned around the edges â is an all-female Chicago-based outfit that fuses industrial, noise, and post-punk into their own indescribable genre. Comprised of Jessie Ambriz (Starless, Girl Activity) on bass, Sally Sachs on bassoon, and Megan Emish (BLOODYMINDED) on electric ukulele and vocals, together they drive their songs forward with ominous electronic beats, bursts of static, and pulsing rhythms.
Elaborates Emish on âStatic,â âThis song is about feeling like your brain is on edge and your teeth are going with it. You know it wonât end well but you canât stop it or calm it down. It keeps building. More static. More noise. More outrage. It overcomes you. When (if?) you make it through – everything changes.”
Adds Decibel, “Going back to the early ’80s, Chicago has a long reputation for noisy industrial rock. The home of Touch & Go and Wax Trax! Records, the city has churned out decades of aggressive, edgy bands. New trio, BURNDY, follows that tradition in unconventional fashion, as illuminated on their new single. ‘Static’… is a slow builder, thatâs terse and nervous with big Joy Division energy and a side of Sonic Youth. BURNDYâs unique lineup… creates a dark, paranoid vibe on the song with minimal instrumentation.”

Burndy was captured at Electrical Audio and Hypercube Studios, engineered and mixed by Sanford Parker, produced by Megan Emish and Sanford Parker, and mastered by Collin Jordan at Boiler Room Mastering. The record will be released on vinyl and digital formats.

BURNDY formed in the Summer of 2018 when Emish decided it was time to start a band that truly allowed her and her friends to channel their rage. She posted online, âHey, Chicago girlfriends! Any of you play any instruments and want to seriously make some âdifficultâ (aka noisy/angry/challenging) music together, with the goal of eventually playing out? PM me, and letâs do it! (Or at least start to figure out how to do it!)â
Sally Sachs responded, âAngry death metal bassoon?â And so it beganâ¦
A great deal of experimentation with personnel and instrumentation soon followed. Open to anything anyone knew â or wanted to learn â how to play, they started with the traditional musical foundation of guitar, bass, vocals, and drums, but with bassoon sprinkled throughout. Eventually the current incarnation was settled upon and BURNDY was officially born.
With a sound that is at once raw and volatile, BURNDY draws from the experimental darkness of Coil, the biting intensity of Cop Shoot Cop, the bleakness of Joy Division, and the caustic spirit of Big Black. But BURNDY doesnât just echo these bands; they combine their influences into a statement thatâs unmistakably their own. Their lyrics dissect power, self-doubt, manipulation, and revenge. With bruising basslines, harsh feedback, and dynamic vocals interwoven with atmospheric machines, BURNDY is abrasive, hypnotic, and impossible to ignore.
